House Approves VA Benefits Expansion Bill for Veterans and Military Families

By Team Coffman Chronicle, 18 hours ago

House Republicans passed legislation expanding eligibility for certain legacy VA benefits, sending the proposal to the Senate after supporters framed the vote as a long-awaited win for veterans and military families.

The House approved H.R. 6047, the Sharron Briley and Eric Edmundson Veterans Benefits Expansion Act, during a bipartisan vote last week. The bill would broaden access to some education and survivor-related benefits tied to older Veterans Affairs eligibility rules.

Republicans and veterans advocates promoted the measure online following the vote, with social posts emphasizing promises to veterans and expanded support for military families previously excluded from some programs.

Rep. Tom Barrett (R-Mich.), who led the legislation, called the bill an effort to close longstanding gaps in benefits access.

The measure now heads to the Senate, where lawmakers will decide whether to advance the proposal toward President Donald Trump’s desk.
